UAIC: Brexit - Now The Dust Has Settled

We are thrilled to announce that Prasanna Gai, Mike Frith and Christina Leung will be joining us on August 16th in Engineering 423-340 to form a panel discussion on Brexit. There will be PIZZA, DRINKS and NETWORKING - an event not to be missed!

Now the dust has settled, the panel of experts will cut through the controversy and hyperbolic rhetoric. Through a balanced discussion, our guests will provide clear insight into what Britain’s decision to leave the EU means for New Zealand, financial markets and the global economy.

Speaker profiles:

Prasanna Gai is Professor of Macroeconomics at the University of Auckland. His academic credentials are of the highest order. He was recently elected a Visiting Fellow of All Souls College, University of Oxford and before that was special adviser to the Bank of Canada. His areas of expertise centre on Financial Crises and Systemic Risk, and we are very lucky to hear from someone with such a wealth of knowledge.

Mike Frith is the head of the NZ Superfund’s economic unit. Mike’s role is to provide the macroeconomic advice that underpins investment analysis and broader investment decisions. Mike joined NZ Superfund following a lengthy tenure at Reserve Bank, where he managed the bank’s Auckland office. Expect Mike to provide valuable insight into whether the events of Brexit should impact what people should invest in.

Christina Leung is a Senior Economist at the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research. Christina has worked at the Reserve Bank and ASB Bank, and we are very fortunate to be benefitting from her extensive experience analysing the New Zealand economy.

There will be something for everyone at this event, and it promises to make you question what you thought you knew about Brexit.

We'll be taking sign ups on the night if you aren't a member of UAIC yet. Membership is $20 for the year; so come early if you need to sign up. We look forward to seeing you all there!
