UAIC: Investing 102

Building on the success of last semester's Investing 101 event, UAIC brings you Investing 102!

Join us on Monday the 3rd of October for a deeper discussion of the fundamentals of value investing. No prior investing knowledge is required, as the event is designed to have something for both beginners and seasoned investors.

We are very fortunate for the event to be hosted by the incredibly knowledgeable Raymond Webb (LLB, Diploma in Business (Finance), The University of Auckland).

Raymond is an expatriate New Zealander who has lived and worked in the United States since 1997.

Raymond started out in stockbroking as an operator ("trader") on the Sydney Stock Exchange trading floor, and went on to roles in Institutional Sales and Research in Australia and New Zealand, ultimately becoming Head of Research at ANZ Securities (NZ) Limited in 1996. As an analyst, he was best known for his coverage of Sir Ron Brierley's active value investment vehicle, Guinness Peat Group PLC, and for being forthright in his views at all times. In 1997, ANZ Securities transferred him to New York.

From 1999 to 2015, Raymond managed insurance company, pension plan and other portfolios at PICO Holdings, Inc., principally in U.S., Australasian and Swiss small-capitalization value stocks and bonds.

In January 2016, Raymond launched his own company, Industrial Equity, LLC, which has begun to make value investments in under-appreciated U.S. stocks and bonds. Raymond is in his sixth year as a mentor in the Columbia Business School Value Investing MBA Mentoring Program. He has been a guest speaker in senior finance classes at New York University and the University of Auckland, and a guest speaker and occasional panelist or judge at student investment club events held at Yale University, Columbia, and Pomona College in the U.S., and Victoria University and Auckland in New Zealand.

At the end of the presentation Raymond will be joined by Tim, Foss, and Hamish, the former and current chairmen of UAIC's Investment Committee, for a Q&A session, followed by pizza and networking!

This event is for members only - we will be taking sign ups on the night so arrive early if you intend on joining! Membership is $20 for the entire year.

We look forward to seeing you there!
